(Scroll down for video) A woman was honored for her bravery of saving a police officer who was beaten by a suspect.

Authorities in Louisiana, said that 56-year-old Vickie Williams-Tillman, was on her way to Sam’s Club and Walmart, when she spotted the officer in trouble.

Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. L’Jean McKneely said that the suspect grabbed the officer’s baton and repeatedly hit him on the head with it, and also attempted to grab the officer’s weapon.

Williams-Tillman jumped onto the suspect’s back and held him down until more police officers arrived.

Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome praised Williams-Tillman and said that despite her “small stature,” she did not hesitate to help the officer in need.

Authorities said that the 44-year-old officer, who was not identified, found 28-year-old Thomas Bennett asleep inside his vehicle with drug paraphernalia out in the open at around 8:00 a.m.

When he was confronted, Bennett became aggressive. He got out of his vehicle and attacked the officer.
