(Scroll down for video) Police launched an investigation after a man claimed that his dog shot his sleeping girlfriend in middle of the night, according to police in Florida.

Jacksonville police said they have questioned 25-year-old Brian Murphy, after his girlfriend suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

Summer Miracle was taken to the hospital to be treated for the gunshot wound. Her injuries are not considered life threatening.

During questioning, Murphy told police that he, his girlfriend and his dog went to sleep in their home in the 2200 block of Patou Drive, on Tuesday night.

At approximately 11:25 p.m., the dog, Diesel, woke him up. He took the dog outside for a walk and they later returned to the bedroom, which was dark.

Deisel then jumped on a night stand and the gun went off, striking Miracle in the leg. Miracle told police that she woke up with sharp pain in the leg and she does not know how she was shot.

No charges have been filed.
