A grandmother had to be locked up in prison after she failed to stay away from her car despite a court order banning her from driving, according to police in Ireland.
Donabate police said that they have arrested 56-year-old Sandra Cassidy, after being accused of driving without a license and with no insurance.
In court, Cassidy apologized and pleaded guilty. Judge Dermot Dempsey sentenced the woman to serve four months in prison and banned her from driving for 20 years.
According to the police investigation, Cassidy has been convicted of 20 traffic offences before being banned from driving for 15 years.
Despite the ban, police officer Mark Richardson caught the woman driving with an open can of beer next to her. Cassidy was arrested at the scene for driving without a license and with no insurance.
Cassidy claimed that she had no choice but to drive to her daughter’s house because her child was assaulted.
