(Scroll down for video) Two boys targeted a defenseless young girl, robbing her and shooting her in the back of the head, according to police in Utah.
On Thursday at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Cache County Sheriff’s Office received a report about a missing 14-year-old girl of Amalga.
The parents of 14-year-old Deserae Turner, told police that she had not returned home from school. Deputies discovered that Turner had been in contact with family and had planned to be home about 4:00 p.m.
Deputies spent most of the night making contact with acquaintances and checking addresses that the girl frequented.
By about midnight, deputies ran out of leads and the girl had not been located.
An attempt-to-locate was broadcast through Cache County and the missing girl’s information was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
At approximately 12:45 a.m., the Smithfield City Police Department was dispatched to a report of a medical situation involving a teenage girl.
A young female had been located in a dry canal East of Sky View High School in Smithfield.
Police learned that the identity of the female was that of the 14-year-old girl whom the Cache County Sheriff’s Office was looking for.
Individuals familiar with the girl who were actively looking for her found her. Turner had significant injuries, and was flown to a Salt Lake City area hospital for further treatment.
She is said to be in critical condition.
The Smithfield City Police Department is now leading an investigation into the suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident.
Two 16-year-old boys have been arrested in connection with the incident. They were both charged with aggravated attempted murder, aggravated robbery and obstruction of justice.
The boys lured Turner to a canal, telling her that they will sell her a knife. The boys then stole the girl’s iPod, phone and wallet containing $55.
They then shot her in the back of the head.
