(Scroll down for video) A dog named Trouble lost its life after getting into trouble.

The dog’s owner said that Trouble jumped over a 6 foot fence and escaped from her family’s home in Nevada.

22-year-old Michelle Smith said that she searched for dog, but was unsuccessful in finding it. She then went to the Lied Animal Shelter and asked if they had seen her dog.

To her horror, she learned that her dog was euthanized after her pet was hit by a car in Las Vegas.

Smith was told that Las Vegas Animal Control was called to pick up the injured dog. Since the dog did not have a dog collar and no microchip, they took Trouble to the shelter.

There it was determined that the dog had two broken legs and injuries to the face. Workers at the Lied Animal Shelter showed Smith a photo of the dog, which was taken before it was killed.

Smith posted the photo to Facebook. The photo does not show any visible injuries and the dog was standing on all fours.

Smith, who loved the dog very much, is devastated that they did not wait at least 24 hours to see if anyone would come looking for the dog. All they waited was 24 minutes, according to Smith.

Workers at the animal shelter did not give much of an explanation about why they killed the dog so soon. They only said that the dog was suffering and they did what was best for the animal.

“Nothing in this world will ever replace this dog. Some people may not understand my bond with him and think it’s just a dog, but this dog has gotten me through so much. He is my child, my best friend, my family.

“I have so much to say, but at the same time, I’m at a loss for words. I thought I’d have this dog with me forever,” she wrote on Facebook.
