A bear that was being transported to a jungle, fell out of a helicopter and died of trauma, according to officials in Thailand.

Hin Tung police said that wildlife officers have launched an investigation over the death of the black bear that was found roaming in the streets of a town.

Officers who were called to capture the young bear weighing about 200 pounds, used tranquilizer darts to put the animal to sleep.

They then loaded the bear onto a helicopter and transported it to the Khao Yai National Park. However, the bear woke up while the helicopter was in the air.

The animal panicked and fell out of the helicopter. The bear fell thousands of feet to the ground and suffered trauma. The black bear died at the scene.

Wildlife Chief Wirat Chatuphon criticized the officer for transporting the bear in a helicopter, saying that such a large and unpredictable animal should have been taken to the jungle in a vehicle on the ground.

He also criticized the fact that the animal was taken to a secluded area, saying that black bears are social and need their family and familiar environment.
