(Scroll down for video) Two parents were sentenced to life in prison after denying medical care to their teenage son who suffered from diabetes, according to court documents in Canada.

60-year-old Emil Radita and 54-year-old Rodica Radita have been convicted of first-degree murder in connection with the starvation death of their 15year-old son Alexandru.

They were both sentenced to serve life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years.

According to the police investigation, Alexandru was diagnosed with diabetes, but his parents refused to acknowledge his condition.

Over a period of several years, Alexandru weight kept declining and he eventually died of starvation and sepsis. The court heard that Emil and Rodica kept their son isolated and did not allow anyone to treat their son.

At some point, social workers took custody of Alexandru, but after he recovered, the child was returned to his parents.
