(Scroll down for video) A man is facing many years in jail after being accused of attempted murder in connection with the beating of a mannequin, according to police in Nevada.

Las Vegas police said that they have arrested 30-year-old Shane Allen Schindler, after being accused of using a hammer to beat a mannequin that was made to look like a sleeping homeless man.

Schindler has been charged with attempted murder and carrying a concealed weapon. He was booked into jail, and his bail has been set at $50,000.

According to the criminal complaint, police launched a sting operation after two homeless men were found beaten to death.

Daniel M. Aldape, 46, David H. Dunn, 60, were found with multiple hammer wounds on the streets of Las Vegas. They were not robbed, and police suspected that they were targeted because they were homeless.

Police placed a mannequin in the street and covered it with a blanket, making it look like a sleeping homeless person. Officers then saw Schindler approaching the mannequin.

Schindler pulled out a hammer and hit the mannequin multiple times. He was then arrested. Some people criticized the charged of attempted murder as it is not possible to kill a mannequin.

However, prosecutors noted that all that matters is criminal intent, and Schindler’s actions certainly showed that he wanted to kill a homeless person.
