What began as a good deed ended with a good Samaritan being arrested and jailed.
Police in Mississippi, said that a man who had been helping a woman who had car trouble, ended up stabbing her boyfriend during an argument.
45-year-old Matthew Danko of Kiln, spotted the woman who had pulled over to the side of the road after she ran out of gas.
She called her boyfriend at around 10:00 p.m. for help, but she was unable to reach him. Danko stopped and offered to drive the woman to a gas station at the DeLisle exit.
She graciously accepted his offer. Danko drove the woman to the gas station and filled up a gas can. Then they drove back to the location of the vehicle.
At some point, the woman got in touch with her boyfriend, Vance Starita, and he drove to meet her.
According to Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan, Starita saw his girlfriend in Danko’s vehicle. Starita pulled up behind them and tried to get Danko to pull over.
Danko did not pull over immediately. Instead, he drove to a nearby Circle K and he stopped there. This move angered Starita and the two men got into a fight.
During the fight, Danko stabbed the woman’s boyfriend. Starita was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Danko claims that he stabbed Starita during the fight in self-defense. He was arrested and is facing a charge of aggravated assault.
Danko was booked into the Hancock County jail, where his bond was initially set at $100,000. However, the bond has since been reduced to $5,000. Danko was released after posting the lower bail.
