(Scroll down for video) A pregnant woman put her life and that of her unborn baby at risk when she fought with a thief who stole her money.

24-year-old Janette Garlow of California, was at a convenience store to get a money order to pay her rent as she does every month.

As she was counting the money and placing the cash on the counter, a black male came from beside her and grabbed $2,000.

However, as he fled, the suspect tripped and fell over a mat that was on the floor. Money went flying, but the man did not stop and he ran into a waiting car.

Garlow ran after the man to get her money back. She held onto the handle of the car door as the suspect ordered the getaway driver to drive off quickly.

Garlow, who is eight months pregnant with her first child, a boy, said that her “fight or flight” instinct kicked and she ran after the suspect because her husband works hard for the money and she was not going to let him get away with it.

The mother-to-be gave up after realizing the she placed herself in danger.

Garlow then counted the money that was left behind when the suspect fell, and realized that she was missing only $40.

Garlow’s husband took her to the hospital after the incident and thankfully, both the mother and her baby are healthy.

Garlow said that from now on, she will no longer buy the money order alone. She will wait for her husband to accompany her.

Police are looking for the suspect.
