(Scroll down for video) A teen tragically lost his life while trying to record a prank on Snapchat, according to police in Singapore.

The incident unfolded at the Orchard Central shopping mall, which is located along the main shopping belt on Orchard Road.

17-year-old Jonathan Chow was at the mall with his friend, Ruth, 17, on Friday night. The two were on the fourth floor when Chow asked Ruth to record a prank he was about to do on Snapchat.

Chow wanted to record himself jumping over a safety railing.

However, he planned to land on a small platform immediately below, but things did not go as planned. After Chow jumped, he crashed through the platform as it was not strong enough to support his weight.

He fell about 50 feet to the ground below. Ruth rushed to the railing and leaned over to see what happened. She was horrified to see Chow lying on the ground below in a pool of blood.

Ruth told police that she and Chow thought that the platform was made of concrete, but the fact was it was just a piece of thin wood.

Ruth also planned to jump, but her life was spared as Chow went first.

Four people performed CPR on Chow, and he was rushed to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he was declared dead. The boy’s father, Matthew Chow, said that he was shocked to hear that his son died.

He also said that he cannot believe his son died at a shopping mall. The owners of the shopping mall plan to hire additional security guard to patrol the facility and keep an eye put for unruly teens.
