Greenfield police said that they have arrested 61-year-old Richard Matte, after being accused of shooting his adult son in the arm.

Matte has been charged with one count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. If convicted, Matte faces up to 12 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000.

He was booked into jail, and his bail has been set at $15,000.

According to the police investigation, Matte walked into his 27-year-old son’s room and found him injecting heroin in his arm.

Matte became pissed and pulled out his gun. The father then asked his son whether he bought the drugs with the money he gave him.

The son admitted to buying marijuana with his father’s money.

Matte then pointed the gun at his son and fired a shot, hitting him in the arm. The son was rushed to the hospital, where he is being treated.

Matte told police that he did not mean to shoot his son as he aimed at the wall.
