(Scroll down for video) A man in New York, was arrested after burning his much younger wife and their dog to death.

Schenectady Police said that the man poured gas on his wife and set her on fire during an argument.

The family’s neighbor, Claire Morales, said that she woke up by the victim’s screams. When she looked into their window, she saw 48-year-old Elizabeth Gonzales on fire.

Morales ran into the home at the 140 block of Elmer Avenue, at around 6:00 a.m., and used a blanket to put out the flames from the victim’s clothes.

Gonzales was still alive and conscious when police arrived. Despite suffering horrific burns, she was able to tell officers that her husband, 69-year-old Antonio Bargallo, threw gas at her and set her on fire.

Gonzales was taken to a hospital, where she died. The couple’s home burned down with their dog inside.

Bargallo was charged with second-degree murder. He is being held in the county jail without bail.

Gonzales left behind two adult sons.
