(Scroll down for video) A mother hired a lawyer immediately after police shot and killed her son, who threatened people at a packed soccer field.

The mother of California, said that police used excessive force when they killed her son, who had psychiatric problems.

The incident took place at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex at 18100 Golden West Street, at around 7:00 p.m.

Witnesses said that 29-year-old Steven Schiltz, arrived with a weapon that was either a machete or a broken bottle. He jumped over a fence and ran after people.

Police were called after Schiltz, who was not wearing a shirt and was bleeding, ran after people.

When police arrived, they witnessed Schiltz running to the bleachers, where he threatened families. That is when they opened fired, killing him.

Schiltz reportedly became homeless after his mother took out an order of protection against him in 2013.

His mother, Angela Hernandez, received the protection order against her son after she told the court: “Steven will threaten his family members with knives, basketball ball, pool sticks, pool balls chairs and basically anything he can get his hands on.”

Family member attempted to get him help for his drug and alcohol addictions. His mother wrote in court records: “Steven desperately needs intervention before something detrimental happens to him, a family member to an innocent individual on the street.”

However, she now claims that these incidents were in the past and that “Steven was all bark no bite.”
