A religious leader betrayed the trust of a young girl by sexually abusing her during a Christian prayer service, according to police in the United Kingdom.

Now, the church leader and a woman have been convicted of committing sexual assaults on a woman and the 14-year-old girl during prayer sessions.

Benjamin Egboujor, 55, was found guilty at the Inner London Crown Court of one count of sexual assault and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The offenses relate to two female victims at a Christian centre in south London.

Rose Oby Nwenwu, 43, was convicted of helping and encouraging Egboujor in relation to one of his victims, and of joining in that sexual assault herself.

The court was told that Egboujor sexually assaulted both victims under the masquerade of Christian prayer, abusing their trust in him as a long-standing religious leader.

Nwenwu also played a vital role in the offending by bringing one of his victims to him, undressing her, encouraging Egboujor in his sexual activity and taking part in the assault herself.

Egboujor was found guilty of sexual assault and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Nwenwu was found guilty of sexual assault and encouraging or assisting the commission of an offence.
