Man faces 5 years in prison for playing Pokemon Go at church

(Scroll down for video) A man is facing a long prison sentence after being accused of desecrating a church by playing Pokemon Go, according to police in Russia.

22-year-old Ruslan Sokolovsky recorded himself playing Pokemon Go in an Orthodox church in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg.

The Investigation Division of the Kirov district of the city of Yekaterinburg, said that they charged Sokolovsky of incitement of hatred or hostility, and humiliation of human dignity.

He faces up to 5 years in prison if convicted.

According to investigators, Sokolovsky posted a video on the Internet, which contained signs of inciting hatred or hostility, and humiliation of human dignity, namely by playing Pokemon Go at church.

The video uploaded by Sokolovsky on YouTube, has been viewed millions of times. In court, Sokolovsky said that he didn't mean to offend anyone.

He apologized if anyone was offended by his playing Pokemon Go at the Church of All Saints in Yekaterinburg. Amnesty International condemned the charges, saying that a young man should not be punished for playing a game.

Leaders of the church called Sokolovsky’s action blasphemy.

So far, the suspect spent two months in jail, awaiting trial.
