Seattle police said that they have arrested 40-year-old Gary Steiner, after being accused of attacking 36-year-old Kelly Herron.

Steiner has been charged with one count of attempted rape and one count of assault. He was booked into the King County jail, and his bail has been set at $750,000.

Herron shared her story on Instagram.

“My biggest running nightmare became reality, 4 miles into my long run on Sunday afternoon. I stopped to use the restroom and was assaulted by a man hiding in a stall.

“I fought for my life screaming, clawing his face, punching back, and desperately trying to escape his grip, never giving up. I was able to lock him in the bathroom until police arrived.

“Thankfully, I just took a self-defense class offered at my work and utilized all of it. My face is stitched, my body is bruised, but my spirit is intact,” Herron wrote.

Steiner has a history of sex crimes. The incident unfolded at the Golden Gardens Park. As Herron was washing her hands at the sink, she was shocked to see Steiner approaching her from behind.

Steiner grabbed her from behind and pushed her to the ground, where he tried to rape her. Herron fight back and managed to lock Steiner into the bathroom, where police arrested him.
