(Scroll down for video) Passengers on a flight from Florida to Illinois, were shocked when a pilot decided to make an emergency landing over spilled soda.

The American Airlines pilot called in the emergency landing due to a mechanical failure caused by soda.

The flight took of from Miami about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, and was heading to Chicago. The Boeing 737 had about 150 people on board.

The plane made the emergency landing at the Jacksonville International Airport, at around 4:45 p.m. The passengers were left stranded at the airport until about 10:00 p.m.

43-year-old Preston Wake said that he was sitting on row 7 when the flight attendant walked by and was holding a cup of soda.

For some reason, the flight attendant slipped, and the soda spilled on Wake. Wake became drenched and changed his clothes.

Wake said that the soda did not cause any mechanical failure.
