(Scroll down for video) It was a very tragic day for a family when they lost a mother and daughter just minutes apart in separate accidents.

The mother was driving on a highway in Alabama, where she was involved in a car accident.

Her 8-year-old daughter died when she was hit by car after getting off her school bus.

Investigators said that 39-year-old Julia Yates Patterson, died when the Ford Explorer she was driving in collided head-on with a Dodge Ram truck.

The fatal accident occurred on Highway 117 at around 3:00 p.m. Two people traveling in the truck were injured in the incident and they were taken to a hospital.

About 30 minutes later, Patterson's daughter Elizabeth “Libby” Patterson, a second grader who celebrated her 8th birthday the previous weekend, was killed.

Elizabeth came off her school bus, and she was safely on the sidewalk when for some reason she ran into the road and was hit by a Ford Fiesta.

Family members said that Elizabeth may have gone into the road to get her bus driver’s attention after realizing that nobody was home.

Kevin Patterson took to Facebook to mourn the loss of his wife, from whom he had recently separated, and his daughter.

He wrote: “I can't believe this is real... I really don't know how to feel. Anybody who knows me, knows how much I loved Elizabeth, she turned 8 years old on Saturday.

“With all our issues, I was still deeply in love with Julie. I regret that Julie and I didn't work it out.

“We spent a magical week together starting on my birthday two weeks ago, but I ended it because I couldn't believe and trust in Julie.

“Now all I can think about is what might have been for us and the most intelligent, thoughtful and loving little girl I have ever known. Tell me this is just a bad dream, please God!”

In another post he wrote: “I can't help but think that we might still be in love if I was a better man two weeks ago, and this tragedy would have been avoided.”
