(Scroll down for video) A police officer was arrested and faces termination after placing his abused dog in a trash bag and he dumped it in a wooded area.

The police officer in Pennsylvania, was arrested after a woman alerted them to the situation.

Barbara Adam said that she was walking with her dog at Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia, when her dog began pulling her.

Adam said that her dog then sat down next to a trash bag. When she walked closer, Adam was shocked to find a dog sticking out.

She called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). “I was horrified. I opened the bag and saw the condition the dog was in. The dog was virtually skin and bones, severely emaciated and barely alive,” Adam said.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian and it was slowly nursed back to health. In addition to being underweight, the dog had infected sores and an ear infection.

The dog that has since been named Cranberry, has since been adopted by a caring family.

Luckily, the dog had a chip and was traced back to 33-year-old Michael Long, who is an 11 year veteran.

Long adopted the 2-year-old pit bull a few months before he abandoned the abused animal.

The police officer was charged with two counts of animal cruelty, one count for possession of an instrument of a crime and one summary charge of animal cruelty.
