(Scroll down for video) A young man was charged after being seen setting up a table and eating breakfast in middle of a busy road, according to police in Florida.

The Lakeland Police Department said that on Tuesday around 11:00 a.m., dispatcher received a call about a man sitting in a crosswalk of the eastbound lanes of Memorial Boulevard and Brunnell Parkway.

The caller stated the man was sitting in a chair with a small “TV” table in front of him, eating what appeared to be pancakes.

Responding officers were unable to locate the man and determined that he had left the area prior to their arrival. A video of this incident was later posted on Facebook, and shared in a message to the LakelandPD Facebook.

In addition, several people tagged the video with his name, Kiaron Thomas, 21. Officers determined that he lived approximately 100 yards south of the intersection of the incident.

Thomas was interviewed and he admitted that he did it as a prank. Thomas’ actions prevented vehicles from moving and created an obstruction.

Thomas was charged with placing an obstruction in the roadway and disrupting the free flow of traffic. People who learned about the charges are angry.

Emma Sonderman said: “Can't you people go do something more important? Why are you looking for a guy who's eating pancakes on the street? Big freaking deal.”

Rose Andrew said: “How y'all gonna arrest someone trying to eat a nutritious breakfast? It's the most important meal of the day.”

Adriana Patino said: “They're able to hunt down a guy doing NOTHING but eating pancakes in the middle of the street (which I find hilarious and would have loved to see this in person). Meanwhile, there are rapists and child molesters walking the streets right now.

Kelli Kocak said: “Huge victory. Glad to see that real criminals like a pancake eating kid are off the streets and will receive charges that will haunt him for years. I feel way safer knowing that he won't terrorize the public again.”

LakelandPD responded by saying that in the early 90’s, two teens from Pennsylvania, and another from Long Island, New York, decided it would be funny to lay in the middle of the road at night, apparently to prove they had nerves of steel.

In these cases, their pranks cost two of them their lives and the other was critically injured.

In New Jersey, a 24-year-old man was struck by two cars and killed after he sat in the middle of Route 206 in Bordentown on a dare from a companion.

“What some think of as prank can have deadly consequences,” police said.
