(Scroll down for video) An elderly man said that he felt like a prisoner in his own home for almost one year.

This is because thieves broke into his home 13 times in the past ten months.

80-year-old John Croft of Center Point, Alabama, said that this time, he was armed and ready when the thieves broke into his home.

On Wednesday, two people broke into his home at 1:15 a.m., while a third man waited in a getaway car outside.

When Croft heard the burglars, he got out of his bed to take his gun. The burglars came into his room, and warned him not to move.

When Croft did not comply, the burglar shot him in the ankle. Croft also shot one time. He hit and killed one of the burglars while the other two fled from the scene.

Police did not yet identify the thief, but officers said that he was a teenager. Croft believes that the suspects are friends of a young man he knows.

Croft is upset that he was forced to kill a teenager. He feels very bad for the suspect’s mother. However, he said that he had no other choice as he was forced to defend himself.

“For one black man to shoot another it don’t look good, but I had no choice,” Croft said.
