(Scroll down for video) A police officer was shot and killed by members for a different police department while he was celebrating his birthday, according to police in Tennessee.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, who took over the case as it involves officers of two separate police departments, said that 26-year-old Daniel Hendrix, a corrections officer with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, was shot and killed during an altercation.

The incident unfolded at a home on Shawnee Trail, at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Hendrix celebrated his 26th birthday with two female police officers of the Chattanooga Police Department, when he suddenly became angry.

Hendrix pulled out his gun and threatened the female officers.

The women managed to escape from the home and called police. Two additional Chattanooga police officers arrived at the scene, and found Hendrix holding the gun outside of the home.

He was ordered to drop his weapon, but he refused. One of the officers then shot Hendrix four times. Hendrix was then rushed to a hospital, where he died.
