A cyclist flew into a rage and cut the face of a man who asked him for a cigarette, according to police in the United Kingdom.

Coventry police said that they have arrested 42-year-old James Kiteley, after being accused of slashing an innocent man across the face only because he asked him for a cigarette while he was riding his bike.

Kiteley has been charged with one count of wounding with intent. In court, he was convicted as charged. Judge Andrew Lockhart QC sentenced Kiteley to serve six years and eight months in prison.

Once released, Kiteley will be placed on probation for five years.

According to the criminal complaint, Matthew Dudley enjoyed drinks at the Coventry Cross pub before going outside and stopping to tie a shoelace at around 2:00 a.m.

When he saw Kiteley, he asked him if he had a cigarette. Kiteley pulled out a knife and cut the face of Dudley. Dudley suffered a deep wound on the side of his face and his lip.

As a result of the attack, Dudley needed a blood transfusion and reconstructive surgery. He was left with a permanent scar on his face, and a loss of sensation in his mouth.
