(Scroll down for video) A teenager was overjoyed when she was invited to join New York Fashion Week as a runway model.

The 19-year-old woman is not just an average teenager, she had been through a lot of pain and suffering in her life.

Reshma Qureshi was burned with acid while living in Allahbad, India.

Qureshi was just 17 years old when she decided to separate from her husband, who had been abusing and torturing her.

As a result, her estranged brother-in-law and with the help of two other men attacked her.

They threw sulfuric acid in her face, causing her to suffer severe burns. She also lose her left eye in the attack.

Qureshi, who is a brave woman, did not let the attack ruin her life. After enduring numerous skin graft surgeries, she became an advocate to help other abuse victims.

When Qureshi, who never left India, was offered to walk at the New York Fashion Week as a runway model, she cried and was overwhelmed by it.

She then agreed to do it in order for people to see that beauty goes beyond the face.

“I want to show people that even though I look like this, I can do things and I can be a model,” she said.

Qureshi wore a long-sleeve, white gown with embroidered appliques by Indian designer Archana Kochhar.
