Uber driver fatally shot while driving 3 California college students from to nightclub in Mexico

A college student who wanted to make some extra cash, tragically lost his life while working as an Uber driver, according to police in Mexico.

The Rosarito Police Department said that they have launched a murder investigation after 28-year-old Jose Humberto Felix Mendez, was shot and killed while traveling with three U.S. college students.

According to the police investigation, the three college students form San Diego, California, traveled to Mexico for spring break.

They called Uber, and Mendez arrived to take them to their apartment at the Club Marena from the nightclub Papas and Beer.

While they were traveling on Federal Highway 1, a black sedan pulled up next to their Nissan March, and several shots were fired.

Mendez was hit in the chest and neck and died at the scene before police arrived. Mendez was a student at the Autonomous University of Baja California, and worked for Uber for some extra cash.

A spokesperson for Uber said that the company deeply regrets this unfortunate incident.
