A man suffering from mental illness did not like the fact that his family called an ambulance to take him to the hospital, according to police in Italy.

Tuscany police said that they have arrested the 34-year-old man, who was not identified, after stealing the ambulance that was supposed to take him to the hospital to treat his mental illness.

The suspect has been charged with one count of theft.

According to the police investigation, on Monday around 4:00 a.m., the man’s family called for help after the suspect became agitated and sad he wanted to travel to Rome.

An ambulance arrived, but instead of going to the hospital, the patient had other plans. He sat into the driver’s seat and took off.

Police chased him for 100 miles before he was forcefully stopped and arrested. Police said that the man has a history of mental illness.

Several years ago, the man was arrested for stealing a bus and driving it through the wall of a church.
