(Scroll down for video) A doctor who made several appearances on television, where he spoke about his expertise, was arrested for sexually abusing women.
Dr. Donald Okechukwu Ozumba, who is an orthopedic surgeon in Texas, was arrested after two women reported him to police.
One woman told police that she went to see Dr. Ozumba, at the OSSM Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in McKinney, and during the exam he touched her private parts.
The doctor then went out of the room and the woman quickly left his office. She reported the incident to police. However, nothing was done at that time as the doctor has a clean record.
About seven months later, another woman came into the office for an injection for a sports injury. She said that Dr. Ozumba claimed he needed to rub in the injection.
While doing so, he penetrated her several times with his finger. The woman said that her husband was in the room, but he was unable to see what the doctor was doing from the place where he was sitting.
The woman then called her physician and asked whether it was normal procedure.
When the doctor informed her that Dr. Ozumba had no reason to touch her private parts as it is not part of the procedure, the woman called police.
The woman had proof of the doctor’s inappropriate behavior in a form of a text message. According to police, after the woman went home, Dr. Ozumba sent her a text message asking her “what her favorite part of the exam was.”
Police believe that there may be other victims who were embarrassed to come forward. Now, they are urging anyone who was treated by Dr. Ozumba and was sexually abused to come forward.
According to his website, Dr. Ozumba participates in medical mission trips to his native Nigeria.
“He co-founded the Center for Advanced Specialty Surgery based in Lagos, with a mission to improve the quality of life by advancing the practice of orthopedics and other surgical specialties through investment, education, skills transfer, and providing the highest quality of care one patient at a time,” the website states.
Dr. Ozumba was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault. He was released after posting $50,000 bond.
The doctor denies all the allegations made against him.
