Clearwater police said that they have arrested 24-year-old Katrina Kegelman, after being accused of neglecting her newborn baby.

Kegelman has been charged with one count of child neglect.

She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, and her bail has been set at $5,000.

According to the police investigation, on Sunday night, Kegelman went into labor and decided to smoke crack cocaine.

She then gave birth and hid the baby in the backyard of her home. When her friend noticed blood on her clothes, Kegelman told her that she gave birth and warned her not to tell anyone.

The friend immediately called police. Police officers who responded to the scene, found the baby alive in the backyard.

The child was rushed to the Morton Plant Hospital, in stable condition. During questioning, Kegelman admitted to using crack cocaine and other drugs during her pregnancy.

Kegelman said that she hid her baby because she was afraid about being arrested for smoking crack cocaine during labor.
