8-year-old boy drowns after falling out of canoe driven by drunk man

A man acted in a reckless manner while riding a canoe in a river, causing a child’s death, according to police in Canada.

The Ontario Provincial Police said that they have arrested 37-year-old David Sillars, after the 8-year-old boy fell out of the canoe and drowned.

The suspect has been charged with impaired operation of a vessel causing death and operating a vessel with blood alcohol of more than 80 milligrams causing death.

According to the police investigation, the boy and the suspect, who is a friend of his family, went to ride in a canoe on Friday.

At around 5:30 p.m., the canoe capsized in the Muskoka River.

The man managed to swim to shore and call the police. Police launched a massive search for the boy, who was found at the bottom of the High Falls.

He was wearing a life vest but drowned. The boy was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead. The suspect was also taken to the hospital after suffering from exposure to the cold water.

A blood test showed that the suspect was drunk while he was riding the canoe.
