A man is facing a charge of defamation for clicking “like” on several Facebook posts, which accused another man of being a racist, according to court documents in Switzerland.

The 45-year-old man of Zurich, who was not identified, is the first person to face a charge of defamation just for engaging with a Facebook post.

The incident began when several Facebook users posted comments about Erwin Kessler, who is the president of an animal protection agency, accusing him of being a racist.

The defendant clicked “like” on a total of eight Facebook posts made by animal rights groups, all of which accused Kessler of being a racist.

After Kessler saw that the defendant clicked “like” on every post that accused him of being a racist, he decided to pursue legal action against him.

Prosecutors claimed that the defendant acted with intent to cause harm without a justifiable reason.

They further claimed that by clicking “like,” the defendant caused the defamatory posts to be seen by a larger group of people.

The defense attorney of the accused told the court that the posts should not be considered defamation as Kessler has been convicted of racial discrimination in the past.

Kessler is pursuing several other people who clicked “like” on the defamatory Facebook posts. However, no charges have been filed against the others.
