A man flew into a rage after his dog messed up his home in middle of the night, according to police in Florida.

Ponce Inlet police said that they have arrested 43-year-old Travis Archer, after being accused of punching his dog in the face until it died.

Archer has been charged with one count of aggravated animal cruelty. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail, pending a bail hearing.

According to the police investigation, at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, officers received a call from the suspect’s neighbor, saying that a dog was being hit.

Officers who arrived at Archer’s home located in the 70 block of Aurora Street, could hear a dog being punched. When police entered the home, Archer told them that he hit the dog because it made a mess.

Police saw ripped papers and CD cases on the floor. They also noticed a hole in the wall. When officers went out to the backyard, they found the unconscious dog bleeding from its mouth.

The dog was not breathing and it was declared dead at the scene. Archer admitted to throwing his dog against the fence of the backyard, and repeatedly punching it in the face.
