A man died while trying to save his furry best friend.
The 93-year-old man of Vermont, walked onto a frozen pond while trying to rescue his dog from the water.
Police said that William R. Graf, was walking with his Jack Russell terrier near Lefferts Pond in Chittenden on Saturday afternoon.
The dog suddenly ran into the frozen water and became trapped.
Detective David Pfindel said that Graf immediately went to rescue his dog, but as he walked about 60 feet from shore, he fell face down on the ice and was unable to get up.
He then fell into the water as he tried to rescue his dog.
Vermont State Police were called to the scene after someone spotted Graf trapped in the pond. By the time rescue workers arrived, the 93-year-old man was no longer alive.
His dog was also found dead in the water.
