A woman got the surprise of her life while shopping at a supermarket in South Africa.

The woman, who was not identified, was shopping at the Spar supermarket in Komatipoort, when she encountered the 12-foot-long snake.

The incident unfolded when the customer was in the dairy section and attempted to take yogurt from the fridge. She grabbed what she thought was yogurt, but instead, she was holding the head of a snake.

She began screaming and running for her life.

Manager Martie Esnouf came to help the woman when she realized that there was a long snake in the fridge among the dairy products.

A snake catcher was called to the supermarket, and he pulled out the African Rock Python from the fridge. The African Rock Python crushes its prey to death before swallowing them whole.

The snake catcher said that the python posed no danger to shoppers as it was in a state of hibernation due to the cold temperature.

The snake catcher kept the snake under observation for 48 hours in order to allow for its organs to warm back up. He then released the snake into the Kruger National Park.
