A travel agent who had no money to treat his girlfriend to vacation, called in fake hijacking threats to airports in an attempt to cancel all flights, according to police in India.
Hyderabad Police said that they have arrested 32-year-old Vamshi Krishna, after posing as a woman and sending an email to the police commissioner, claiming to have information about planned hijackings.
Krishna is facing a charge of making threats.
According to the police investigation, Krishna of Hyderabad, chatted with a woman in Chennai. He promised to send her an airplane ticket so that they could go on vacation to Mumbai.
When Krishna, who is married, realized he had no money for the trip, he came up with an elaborate scheme to fool his girlfriend.
He sent her a fake ticket and the day the woman thought she was going to fly from Chennai to Hyderabad, Krishna went to an Internet cafe and emailed the threat to the police commissioner.
In the email, Krishna wrote that he was a woman and overheard terrorists plotting to hijack planes from Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai airports.
Police carried out raids at all three airports and halted flights, but they found no evidence of the hijackers. Investigators then traced the email to Krishna, and he was arrested.
During questioning, he admitted to making up the claims in order to avoid taking his girlfriend on vacation.
