Wicklow police said that they have arrested 39-year-old Roy Webster, after being accused of killing 47-year-old Anne Shortall.

Webster has been charged with one count of murder.

He appeared before the Central Criminal Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder, but admitted to manslaughter, claiming that he beat Shortall with a hammer during an argument.

According to the police investigation, Webster met the Shortall, who was a mother of three children, and they had a sexual relationship behind his wife’s back.

Shortall was also married, but she was in the process of divorcing her husband. When Shortall learned that she got pregnant, she contacted Webster and asked him for money for an abortion.

The two set up a meeting to discuss the matter. During the meeting, Webster wanted proof that he was the father of the unborn child.

At some point, Shortall threatened to reveal their affair to his wife. Webster flew into a rage and used a hammer to beat Shortall in the head until she died.

A medical examiner told the court that Shortall died as a result of nine blows to the head. The court found that Webster was guilty of murder, and he was sentenced to serve life in prison.
