A police officer betrayed the trust of his community by sexually assaulting a young woman he was supposed to protect, according to police in the United Kingdom.

Metropolitan Police Service Detectives from the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards have charged the serving police officer from the Enfield borough with sex crimes.

PC Ares Michaelides, 49, was charged on Tuesday, with one count of sexual assault against a female over 16 years of age by touching.

The charge relates to an offense, which is alleged to have taken place at a residential address in Enfield, while the officer was on duty.

He had been arrested at the Enfield police station on suspicion of sexual assault after the young woman filed a complaint. The officer has been placed on restricted duties.
