(Scroll down for video) A young boy is a hero for saving his mother while she was being attacked by an intruder.

Police in New York, were called to a home in the Bronx, on Tuesday evening, after a mother was stabbed in front of her children.

Police said that the intruder knocked on the door of the home, which is on the third floor of an apartment building, at 5:00 p.m.

The man, who was identified as 22-year-old Brian Febus, asked the 32-year-old mother to use her bathroom, but she refused.

Police said Febus then kicked the door in and went inside. The mother who was home with her two children, 4 and 11, armed herself with a kitchen knife.

However, the intruder managed to grab the knife from her and slashed her arm. While Febus attacked the mother, her 11-year-old son grabbed a knife and stabbed him twice in the back.

Febus finally ran out of the home.

The boy and his mother were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The mother suffered a cut to the arm and a bloody lip, while her son had scratches on her arm.

Police said that while officers were at the St. Barnabas Hospital with the mother and son, Febus came to the same hospital for treatment for his wounds.

Febus told doctors that he was injured during a street fight. However, detectives quickly realized that his stab wounds were consistent with story the victims gave them.

Febus, who has 14 prior arrests, was arrested on charges of assault and burglary.
