A woman who wanted to get her hands on free money, made up story about being pregnant and giving birth, according to police in Washington.

Bremerton police said that they have arrested 42-year-old Yvonne Joy Dunn, after being accused of scamming the Department of Social and Health Services out of more than $3,000 in cash and food stamps.

In court, Dunn has been found guilty of first-degree theft and false public assistance verification. A Kitsap County Superior Court judge sentenced Dunn to serve 5 years in prison.

According to the criminal complaint, Dunn filed paperwork, claiming that she became pregnant and gave birth at the side of the road.

As a result, Dunn received more than $3,000 from the Department of Social and Health Services, she was not entitled to get.

Dunn was caught lying after investigators called the clinic at which she claimed to have received care following the roadside birth.

The clinic denied that Dunn was their patient.

Police also checked in with a Planned Parenthood clinic, where Dunn took a pregnancy test just day days before she claimed that she gave birth at the roadside.

The results of that pregnancy test was negative. Dunn was also sentenced for stealing from her employer and a credit card company.
