(Scroll down for video) A young girl is afraid to sleep in her own home after being sexually assaulted by a boy from her neighborhood, according to police in New York.

The New York Police Department said that they have arrested the 15-year-old boy of Queens, after being accused of using a ladder to climb through an open window and sexually abusing the 4-year-old sleeping girl.

The boy, who was not identified due to his young age, has been charged with attempted rape, burglary and aggravated sex abuse.

According to the police investigation, early on Sunday morning, the girl was sleeping in her bedroom while her parents were not home.

The girl was left in the care of several adult relatives. At some point, the 15-year-old boy used a ladder to climb through the second floor window, which was kept open for air.

He then sexually assaulted the young girl and left the home located on Francis Lewis Boulevard. When the girl’s parents came home, she told them about the attack.

The girl was taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed that she was sexually assaulted. Police collected DNA from the ladder and the girl’s bedroom, which led them to the 15-year-old boy.
