A woman was shocked to be woken up by police who knocked on the window of her car after she fell asleep in middle of the road, according to police in Louisiana.

The Alexandria Police Department said that on Tuesday at around 1:30 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of MacArthur Drive and North Blvd, to a report of a car stopped in the roadway with a woman asleep at the wheel.

Officers arrived on the scene and found the woman still asleep in the driver's seat of the vehicle, and the gearshift indicated that the car was still in drive.

After several attempts at waking the driver, she finally woke up.

She rolled the window down and put the car in park. The driver was identified as Shalonda Eggins, 34, of Alexandria.

Upon speaking with her, the officers observed signs of intoxication, and also found that Eggins had an active arrest warrant through Alexandria City Court for contempt of court.

She was taken into custody. During a search, she was found to be in possession of suspected methadone and marijuana.

Eggins was charged with unauthorized stopping in the roadway, open container, possession of marijuana, and possession of meth, and was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
