Uber driver rapes intoxicated passenger who fell asleep in the back of his van

(Scroll down for video) An intoxicated woman woke up to find an Uber driver raping her in his car, according to police in California.

The Santa Ana Police Department said that they have arrested 37-year-old Angel Sanchez, after being accused of taking advantage of a drunk woman by raping her in the back of his van.

Sanchez has been charged with rape of an intoxicated victim.

He was booked into the Santa Ana Police Department jail, and his bail has been set at $100,000. If convicted, Sanchez faces up to 8 years in prison.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman was at a company gathering in Newport Beach. The victim’s colleagues requested an Uber ride for her from the gathering to the victim’s home in Santa Ana.

At the time of the crime, Sanchez was a driver for Uber and is accused of picking up the victim in a 2016 gray Toyota Sienna.

Sanchez is accused of driving the victim to a street near her residence in Santa Ana, and sexually assaulting the victim in his vehicle while she was under the influence of alcohol.

The victim ran from the defendant’s vehicle and immediately called 911, reporting that she was attacked. Sanchez had been working for Uber for a year.

He was banned from the Uber driver app.
