The men were charged with hunting and killing a species under second-class protection.

The pair of hungry men are accused of stealing the black swan from a Shanghai park, taking it home, cooking it and eating it some of it.

Workers at Shanghai Xujiahui Park realized that one of the five black swans had disappeared from the lake.

While reviewing the surveillance video, police discovered the two men snatching the swan and running away with it from the park.

Witnesses at the scene, were able to identify the suspects as Zhou and Wang. When police confronted the men, they told officers that they went to the park the night before for fishing.

However, they were frightened by security patrols. Instead of going home empty handed, they took the swan.

The men claimed that on the way home, the swan mysteriously died.

The next day, the pair cooked the bird with some radishes. The men told police that they ate a bit, but they did not like the taste so they just threw away the rest of the bird meat.
