People were shocked to see a man pulling down his pants and defecating outside of a church, according to police in Pennsylvania.

The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department said that they have arrested James Russell, 47, after being accused of acting disorderly in public.

Russell has been charged with one count of disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident unfolded around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in North Main Street. A caller dialed 911 to report a man on the steps of the church with his pants down.

Upon police arrival, Russell was no longer on the steps. They found Russell nearby with a blue bag and a blue milk crate on North Main Street and Maple Street.

Upon speaking to him, Russell was hard to keep on task and was continually eating from a large container of strawberries.

He provided a driver’s license identifying him as James Robert Russell. There were no warrants for his arrest and he denied having removed his pants in the area of the church.

Russell was subsequently allowed to leave.

Officers returned to the location, where they spoke to additional witnesses one of who stated that the suspect “pooped on the steps.”

Upon closer inspection, officers saw human feces on the top step of the church surrounded by half eaten strawberries.
