A man became extremely distraught after failing a driving test, which would have permitted him to legally operate a bulldozer, according to police in the United Arab Emirates.

Al Qusais police said that they have arrested the 25-year-old man, who was not identified, after being accused of attempting suicide.

At the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours, the suspect pleaded not guilty to one count of attempting suicide.

According to the police investigation, the suspect spent his entire life savings to cover the costs of taking driving tests for the operation of bulldozers.

Over the past year, the suspect tried and failed taking the test multiple times.

On Sunday, the suspect and his 23-year-old friend went to the Galadari Motor Driving Centre, to take the driving test for operating bulldozers.

After failing the test again, the suspect became extremely angry and frustrated. He then repeatedly said that he wished to die.

The man waked to a nearby gas station and bought diesel. The suspect then doused himself with the fuel. The man then reached into his pocket to grab a cigarette lighter.

The suspect’s friend and another man quickly sprang into action and prevented the man from lighting himself on fire. Officials at the Galadari Motor Driving Centre called police, who arrested the suspect.

During questioning, the suspect told police that since he had no money left, he decided to kill himself.
