(Scroll down for video) A couple was left devastated over the sudden loss of their young son.

Kyrin Falcetti of Virginia, dropped her son Cole off at the daycare center, which is located inside the home that belonged to a Stafford County Sheriff’s deputy.

The officer was not home, but his fiancee was there. She was supposed to be caring for the boy when he somehow got hold of a loaded gun.

At 12:45 p.m., one hour after being dropped off at the daycare, Falcetti said that she got the call, saying something had happened.

When she arrived back at the daycare, she learned that Cole had shot himself. Emergency workers attempted to save the boy, but were unsuccessful.

Cole was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating the incident, and said that the gun the boy used to kill himself was not the deputy’s service weapon.

The deputy’s fiancee may face charges over Cole’s death.

Cole’s father, Josh Falcetti, is warning others to learn from their tragic loss to keep guns locked away safely.

“There’s no reason a child should be within reach of any type of weapon whatsoever at any point in time,” Josh said.
