Man used drone to drop marijuana and cell phones into prison

A man was caught using a drone to drop contraband into a prison yard, according to police in the United Kingdom.

The West Midlands Police said that the man has been charged with using drones to fly drugs and mobile phones into the Birmingham prison.

27-year-old Michael Tovey is accused of using two drones to drop contraband into an exercise yard in HMP Birmingham.

Tovey, who is currently serving time for an unrelated crime in Dorset, first tried dropping a consignment into the exercise yard near N and P wings, which contained four phones, SIM cards, Black Mamba, steroids and cannabis.

Tovey is also accused of being at the controls of a drone that crashed into the same yard eight days later, carrying two phones and more of the same banned drugs.

Tovey of Lakes Road in Erdington, faces a total of 13 counts of conveying banned items into prison.
