(Scroll down for video) An 11-year-old boy called police to report his father for possessing and selling drugs.

Police in Lawrence, Massachusetts, told the boy that he did the right thing when he turned his drug dealing father in.

Officers promised to keep an eye out for the boy and to protect him while he is being cared for by family members.

The father had custody of the boy. They have recently been evicted from their home and moved into his paternal grandmother’s home.

One day, the boy called 911 and told dispatchers: “I think my father is selling drugs.”

The boy told officers that he witnessed his father selling drugs when he arrived home from school. He and his 13-year-old cousin then went into the room, which he shared with his father, and found drugs in a suitcase.

Police found more than 200 grams of drugs worth $8,500 in the suitcase.

The boy’s father, 40-year-old Yamil Mercado, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking and child endangerment.
