A mother gave her daughter the ultimate gift when she donated her womb to her.

This was the first uterus transplant performed in India.

The 43-year-old mother offered to undergo the difficult procedure so that her daughter, who was born without a uterus, can experience childbirth.

The 21-year-old daughter underwent surgery by a team of doctors at Pune’s Galaxy Care Hospital.

The hospital’s medical director, Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar, who led the team during the uterus transplant, said that the surgery lasted over 9 hours.

Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar said that the mother and daughter are doing well.

However, he explained that the daughter will have to wait at least one year before attempting to get pregnant through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

This is because she needs to give her body enough time to heal and adapt to the new uterus.

Dr. Mats Brannstrom, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Sweden’s University of Gothenburg, said that only 6 babies have been born after undergoing uterus transplants.

Two of those 6 babies were born to the same mother. So far, all those babies were born from uterus transplants done by the same medical team in Sweden.
