(Scroll down for video) A father and his 17-year-old son were arrested after a young child was shot with their gun.

Police said that 50-year-old Michael Lane Dugas of Louisiana, bought his 17-year-old son Jake Dugas a firearm.

Jake placed the gun in a mesh bag in his room. His 7-year-old brother found the gun, placed it in his own backpack and took it to school.

When the first grader arrived at the Moss Bluff Elementary School at about 8:00 a.m., he took out the gun to show it to his classmates.

However, the gun fell to the ground and another boy grabbed it. The gun went off and shot another 7-year-old boy in the stomach.

The victim was rushed to the Lafayette General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. The victim is now in the pediatric ICU, where his condition is being monitored.

Sheriff Tony Mancuso said that due to his age, the boy who brought the gun to school cannot be charged, but they brought charges against the adults who left the gun in the reach of the young boy.

The father was charged with improper supervision of a minor and negligent injury. His teenage son was charged with negligent injury.
